Sometimes you have those weeks where everything just clicks. I’ve just returned from the Côte d’Azur, where I spent a few days visiting one of our partners: Advanced Tracking, a specialist in communication solutions for yachts and superyachts. A few days in a stunning setting, great company, the occasional lunch by the water, and conversations about technology and innovation. Life is good. And in moments like these, work doesn’t feel like an obligation at all.

Communication that matters

Make no mistake: I was there for work. Together with Advanced Tracking, we’re working on something that truly matters to yacht owners around the world, reliable communication, anytime and anywhere.

At Wanscale, we developed the underlying technology for their SmartConnect Gateway, an innovative all-in-one system brought to market by Advanced Tracking, specifically designed for vessels up to 20 meters in length. The SmartConnect Gateway includes a dedicated VPN tunnel that ensures secure data transmission for the integrated Iridium Certus 100 modem.

What if your connection drops out?

Imagine this: you’re in the middle of the ocean, fully dependent on your communication and safety systems. And then… everything goes down. That’s the fear many yacht owners face. Which is exactly why they choose to equip their vessel with the SmartConnect Gateway.

With this system, you can track your yacht’s location in real time, no matter where you are. You can easily share your position with family or friends, so they know where you are, while simultaneously collecting ocean data via wireless sensors that support LoRaWAN. In case of an emergency, SmartConnect can automatically send a distress signal to the International Rescue Coordination Center 24 hours a day, an essential lifeline for safety at sea.

All-in-one and always connected

The SmartConnect Gateway supports connectivity via Starlink or other satellite services and offers backup connectivity through Iridium Certus 100. On board, you can easily create a private Wi-Fi network for entertainment or work systems. Thanks to an active GPS antenna, your location is determined with even greater accuracy, and the integrated Iridium antenna allows you to download real-time weather updates, essential for safe route planning.

All of this comes in a compact, easy-to-install solution with no complex cabling. No more expensive, complicated systems on board, just smart simplicity that always works.

Born and raised in Rijsbergen as the son of an entrepreneurial family, I have gained a wide range of experiences in various sectors from an early age. At the age of twenty, I took my first steps into the ICT industry, and by thirty, I had started my first IT company. Over the years, I have acquired in-depth knowledge and experience in network solutions.

Most people probably know me from IP Visie, the company I co-founded with my partner Fouad, where we both worked for over 15 years. During that time, we gained extensive experience in building a core network distributed across multiple data centers. It was there that I truly learned how crucial data communication is and how the world is becoming increasingly dependent on reliable and secure connectivity.

Connectivity is a patchwork of different technologies, networks, and equipment. It requires the right knowledge and experience to seamlessly integrate all these elements and build complex solutions. This challenging and dynamic field continues to fascinate me, especially as communication plays an ever-growing role in how we work and live.

In my free time, I enjoy staying active and taking long rides on my gravel bike. As a true bon vivant, I love good food and prefer spending my vacations in Italy, my favorite destination.
