An internationally operating rental company with over 800 locations spread across more than 25 countries is highly dependent on its centralized IT environment.
In some countries, the availability of bandwidth and stable internet is not as common as in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, they also want to use a redundant internet connection here to ensure 24/7 access to all IT systems.
Increasing Dependence on IT
The customer is experiencing an increasing dependence on their IT systems and desires full redundancy of all systems and connectivity at all locations.
Ability to Easily Expand
Due to the continuous expansion of branches, whether through acquisitions or not, there is a strong desire to quickly and easily connect new locations to the current IT infrastructure.
The goal is to provide all locations with uniform access to the current hybrid cloud environment, with close attention paid to the level of management necessary to keep all systems and locations up and running.
IP Addresses
The customer requires the ability to use their own IP space to simplify management and meet specific security and compliance requirements.
Our solution
Wanscale has provided its platform to connect locations to the central infrastructure. In addition to the platform, the supplementary services SD-Internet, DC Connect, Cloud Connect, and Bring Your Own IP have been implemented.
By placing a Service Edge at each location and connecting it to Starlink, 4G, or one or more local broadband Internet Service Providers (fiber or copper), a situation is created that makes it easy to manage these locations.
By linking two or more communication solutions at each location, redundancy is achieved at each site. The Service Edge, in combination with the Wanscale platform, ensures that all traffic runs over the best-performing connection.
This setup guarantees that employees at the branches can always perform the administrative tasks necessary for handling rented items.
By using DC Connect, a 10 Gbps connection has been established between the Wanscale Cloud infrastructure and the datacenter infrastructure of an ISP that manages all internet access.
The same ISP also allows the customer to use designated IP address ranges with Wanscale’s Bring Your Own IP.
Every New Location Active Within the Hour
What makes this use case particularly special is the seamless collaboration between Wanscale, its partner, and a supplier of the partner.
Upon the arrival of the Wanscale Service Edge at the location, the latest software version is automatically loaded. The partner then connects the lines to the Service Edge and links it to the VNET.
Because the VNET contains all the configurations, it’s simply a matter of pushing the right settings from the platform to the Service Edge, and the new location is online.
This approach ensures a new installation within the hour.

Wanscale is provider-independent and therefore collaborates with partners for such solutions. In this case, for providing local connectivity and IP address ranges, Wanscale works with an ISP capable of delivering connectivity based on DSL or Fiber across large parts of Europe.
For Starlink, Wanscale partners with another provider, as well as for 4G/5G solutions.
This approach allows the customer to choose the most ideal solution, centrally managed through the Wanscale portal, despite the connectivity coming from multiple different providers.
