A nationally operating shipping company with 5 branches and over 40 vessels in the Netherlands heavily relies on its centralized IT environment.
For the office locations, fixed connections in the form of fiber optic, coaxial, and DSL are used.
On the boats, WiFi connections are used when they are docked at the pier, and 4G is used when they are sailing. Larger ships utilize Starlink for connectivity.
Depending on IAAS solutions
The customer uses various IAAS applications at the office locations (including voyage planning) and heavily relies on electronic payment transactions both on the boats and onshore.
Vessels on the water
For the boats, it’s important that guests aboard can use debit/credit card payment. Additionally, as an added service, guests are offered wireless internet via WiFi.
Our solution
Wanscale has delivered its platform to connect the office locations, primarily for the telephony solution.
By equipping each boat with a Service Edge, the most cost-effective solution is chosen for payment transactions.
While the boat is docked at the pier, it uses a WiFi connection with the office onshore. Once the boat starts sailing and moves out of range, rendering WiFi unusable, smaller boats switch to 4G while larger boats use Starlink for connectivity.
The Wanscale solution seamlessly switches from one connection to another based on Telemetry Based Routing, ensuring transitions are imperceptible to users.
Since the implementation of the Wanscale platform, the customer has experienced a significant improvement in network performance and stability. The flexible and intelligent traffic routing ensures that data communication always occurs via the best available connection. This has resulted in reduced downtime and increased productivity across all locations.
One of the biggest advantages is the simplification of network management. Previously, there were complex and time-consuming processes, whereas now the Wanscale solution offers a centralized and easy-to-manage interface.
